Every hour, up to one thousand ocean-like waves roll into the artificial surfing lagoons of Wavegarden. An enormous amount of electromechanical force is required to generate these manmade waves and LUTZE AirSTREAM is an essential part of this process. The innovative wiring system houses multiple frequency inverters and other critical components while preventing them from overheating inside the control cabinets.
Famous beaches across the World attract surfers for the ultimate chance to catch the perfect wave. Unfortunately, not everyone is lucky enough to live close to the ocean or has the means to travel to a top surfing destination.
Wavegarden's business idea is to offer everyone in the World the opportunity to enjoy the incredible experience of surfing, even if there is no ocean close by. It is a Spanish engineering company that builds these first class artificial surfing systems. These surfing lagoons can serve as the main attraction to large amusement and theme parks or simply as a single attraction for surfing enthusiasts to visit on their own. This Spanish-based company dominates this booming sector with six successful surfing parks located on four continents.
Creating waves of excitement
More than a decade ago, with great innovation and the will to experiment, the Spanish engineering company came up with the first surfing system of this kind. A number of optimizations and patents led to the latest generation of surfing lagoons, the Wavegarden Cove, where up to 1,000 perfect waves can be generated per hour. The amplitude, force and frequency of the waves can be varied at the push of a button: from smaller gentle waves for beginners up to 2 m tall waves for surfing professionals. The technology generates an authentic surfing experience, as confirmed by many enthusiastic professional surfers.
Every Wavegarden Cove surf lagoon consists of a fan-shaped pool that is divided by a central bridge which houses the advanced wave generation system. Electro-mechanically programmed systems create a forward and backward motion to generate water movements that rush into the pool as waves.
When it comes to the control cabinet equipment, LUTZE’s AirSTREAM wiring system was the ideal choice. It allows for more compact control cabinets—up to 30% smaller—thanks to its design which eliminates the need for wire way. This innovative system offers a superior alternative to traditional back panels, which would require much larger or multiple control cabinets.
Simplified opportunity
LUTZE, S.L. in Spain delivers preassembled AirSTREAM frames to their distributor for component installation. The control cabinet is completed efficiently in a timely manner and delivered to the designated construction site where technicians can continue with the installation.
Incorporating the AirSTREAM wiring system has also simplified the bill of materials significantly. Using a traditional back panel system would require more effort in the ordering process with a longer list of materials. This simplification not only saves time but also minimizes potential errors in ordering, leading to greater efficiency in the overall workflow.
A cool advantage in hot regions
Another major benefit of the AirSTREAM wiring system is its ability to maintain even climate and optimal airflow within the control cabinet. Unlike systems that rely on wire ducts, AirSTREAM promotes even air circulation, preventing hotspots and reducing component stress caused by high temperatures. The Wavegarden Cove uses 48 frequency inverters for the mechanical paddle movement which produces significant heat. With the high packing density in the control cabinet, AirSTREAM is the ideal solution, especially in regions with warm climates such as Australia, Brazil and Southern California. Wavegarden is growing with more than 60 projects across five continents in various stages of development and continues to stay on the same wavelength as LUTZE.
